This is a ballad about two lovers, Hafbur and Signe. It is a romantic and tragic tale with a strong moral message. It was first published in English in 1913 and translated by George Borrow. It was edited by Thomas James Wise (1859 - 1937) who completed the collection now housed in the British Library, known as the Ashley Library.
