"Jeff Briggs's Love Story" is a Western adventure novel. Jefferson Briggs is the proprietor and landlord of the "Half-way House," a hotel in a remote mountainous part of the country. On a snowy evening, the hotel receives Mr. and Mrs. Mayfield, Eastern tourists, who had travelled overseas for the benefit of their daughter's health, and before returning to New York, intended, under the advice of their physician, to further try the effects of mountain air on their sick daughter. Jeff instantly takes to Miss Mayfield's charm and frankness. But as she questions him about his late parents, Jeff has to deal with his father's scandalous past.
