This story is a little autobiographical as it is about a young man who writes a play and is then unsure how to go about getting it produced and onto the stage. He is also uncertain of the play's worth. In his early years, James was also a struggling playwright and his first play was markedly unsuccessful, being booed off the stage. He of course went on to be one of the most acclaimed novel writers and playwrights of his day.
